Self care for everyone looks a little different. For some it is a day at the spa. Others may choose to read a book. Some may love a long run or walk through a local park or trail. There are so many different options for self care. Let's explore the definition of what self care is. A quick Google search provides this definition: the practice of taking action to preserve or improve one's own health or the practice of taking an active role in protecting one's own well-being and happiness, in particular during periods of stress.
What action can you take to preserve your health? What action can you take to relieve stress?
As a mom, finding time for self care is always a challenge. My life is centered around my kids and their needs and activities. I could list excuse after excuse as to why I don't do more self care, but when it comes down to it, it doesn't happen because I don't make it a priority. Then, when the normal level of stress gets to be too much, I don't have the reserves needed to keep moving forward and I have to find a way to pour from an empty cup. That is why, as a part of my 40 before 40, regular self care is on my list of things to accomplish. I am discovering that my self care may look different each week. One week, it is reading a book, another taking a walk, other times it is having a conversation with a friend. My point here is that just because you decide that self care this week looks this way, doesn't mean it ALWAYS has to look that way. Try new things, find things that feed your soul, discover new likes...allow yourself to be YOU!
So, what is your self care this week? How did it make you feel when you were done? What are you favorite ways to have self care?
Have a great start to your week!
See you soon!
